Lowndes County Emergency Management is teaming up with GEMA, the NWS, and NOAA to provide residents with a daily roadmap for safety. From Sunday, May 3, through Saturday, May 9, the community will focus on specific themes like understanding forecasts, securing insurance early (remember the 30-day waiting period!), and staying safe after the storm has passed. As Director Ashley Tye notes, we never know the exact impact a season will have, but we can control how prepared we are to protect our families.

VCS Announces Transition: Advanced Learning Moving to Home Campuses

Valdosta City Schools is moving toward a more integrated model for advanced academics. Effective June 30, 2026, the VECA program will be discontinued as the district shifts focus toward strengthening honors, AP, IB, and Dual Enrollment programs directly within students' home schools. This move aims to eliminate the duplication of services and allow students to fully engage in athletics and extracurriculars without sacrificing academic rigor.

Viking Victory Tour: Lowndes Teams Sweep Region Titles and Playoff Rounds

Success is the standard for Lowndes High this spring. The Viking Baseball team just shut out Mountain View (3-0 and 15-0) to advance in the Class 6A State Playoffs, while our Tennis squads made quick work of Collins Hill. Not to be outdone, the Track and Field and Golf teams have added more hardware to the trophy case with Region Championship wins. Up next: Baseball takes on Parkview this Friday at home!
