Are You Ready? Lowndes County Kicks Off Hurricane Preparedness Wee
Lowndes County Emergency Management is teaming up with GEMA, the NWS, and NOAA to provide residents with a daily roadmap for safety. From Sunday, May 3, through Saturday, May 9, the community will focus on specific themes like understanding forecasts, securing insurance early (remember the 30-day waiting period!), and staying safe after the storm has passed. As Director Ashley Tye notes, we never know the exact impact a season will have, but we can control how prepared we are to protect our families.

Essential tasks—like watering your food garden or new plants—are still allowed anytime. Small habits, like fixing a leaky faucet or directing sprinklers away from the pavement, make a massive impact when we all do them together.

Critical Update: Drought and Storm Debris Fuel Most Devastating Fire in Georgia History
Our firefighters are battling a "perfect storm." The vegetation is bone-dry from extreme drought, and the path of debris left by Hurricane Helene is providing massive fuel loads. The Silver Lining: There are currently no reports of additional major injuries or loss of life. However, our first responders are exhausted. With no rain in the forecast, they need our support more than ever.
